New Orleans Saints inside linebacker Nate Stupar (54) stops a punt by New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead (6) on the one yard line setting up an eventual defensive touchdown against the Detroit Lions during a NFL game in New Orleans, La. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017.

The New Orleans Saints have lost one of their top special-teams standouts.

Veteran linebacker Nate Stupar suffered a torn ACL in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 52-38 win over the Detroit Lions, a source told The Advocate on Monday night.

Stupar, who led the Saints in special-teams tackles in 2017 with 13, only had one tackle through the first five games, but he downed an early Thomas Morstead punt on the 1-yard line to set up a Saints defensive touchdown on Sunday.

With Stupar out for the season, New Orleans can turn to former CFL standout Adam Bighill, and former 49ers special-teamer Shayne Skov is also available on the practice squad.
