It’s time for the backup bowl.

Baltimore coach John Harbaugh announced earlier this week that the Ravens will turn the fourth and final preseason game over to the backups. And while Saints coach Sean Payton has not publicly committed to a plan of action, he’s said that he expects backup quarterback Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin to handle most of the snaps.

That means this one will likely be all about the dreamers and schemers who are trying to latch on at the bottom of the roster. So for the guys on the field, this one will be more about themselves than the men they are lining up against.

The Saints do not appear to have many roster spots up for grabs, but the battles that were taking place at the beginning of camp remain highly contested.

Derek Dimke and Shayne Graham are still fighting it out to be the top kicker. Joe Morgan, Nick Toon, and Robert Meachem will continue to battle for the last wide receiver spot, though Kenny Stills’ quad injury could mean that all three initially make it.

There are also other battles taking place for spots on the offensive line, defensive line, and at linebacker.

So the scouting this week isn’t about the Ravens. It’s about the guys wearing black and gold.
