WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- There is no shortage of injury news from today's practice.
The headliner, of course, is the continued absence of Drew Brees. The quarterback missed Saturday's Black and Gold scrimmage due to a strained left oblique and remained sidelined during Monday's session. He was present, but did not participate.
Cornerback Champ Bailey was also present for the first time since being knocked out of action last week. He rode a stationary bike with cornerback Terrence Frederick, tight eight Je'Ron Hamm, offensive lineman Ty Nsekhe and wide receiver Steve Hull.
Offensive lineman Ben Grubbs, fullback Erik Lorig, defensive linemen Glenn Foster and Jason Weaver, wide receiver Kenny Stills, and linebacker Victor Butler also did not practice.
John Jenkins also remains out following offseason pectoral surgery.
-- During the opening walkthrough, safety Vinnie Sunseri worked on the field with the first- and second-team defenses. Undrafted rookie Pierre Warren was on the other field.
-- Center Jonathan Goodwin received some snaps at left guard with Tim Lelito at center. Coach Sean Payton previously said he would allow the center battle to go on as long as it needs to. Lelito later botched a snap.
-- Reserve guard Senio Kelemente worked as a center with the second-team offense.
-- Jairus Byrd, Joe Morgan, and Brandin Cooks continue to return punts
-- Trevin Wade, Corey White, Andy Tanner, Patrick Robinson, Seantavius Jones, and Brian Dixon served as gunners on the punt coverage team.
-- Safety Marcus Ball forced and recovered a fumble in a simulated punt-return drill. He received some snaps with the first team defense.
-- Terron Armstead continues to give Junior Galette problems in one-on-one pass-rush drills. Akiem Hicks had an impressive win by spinning by Jahri Evans.
-- Mark Ingram had a big gain on an inside run during 11-on-11 drills. Pierre Thomas had a nice gain on the same play a few plays later.
-- Corey White picked off a pass from Ryan Griffin that was intended for Marques Colston.
-- Rookie cornerback Stanely Jean-Baptiste did a nice job of shedding a blocker and tackling Ingram for a loss. Later, Jean-Baptiste got caught cheating, which allowed Morgan to get open for a big gain.
-- Ronald Powell got into the backfield to strip quarterback Logan Kilgore.
-- The team did some red-zone and goalline work. It seemed the offense got the best of the offense, with Jean-Baptiste batting down a pass.
-- Sunseri got beat by backup tight end Benjamin Watson for a touchdown.
-- Cadet dropped a touchdown pass after beating Dixon to the end zone.
