New Orleans Saints long snapper Zach Wood (49) on the bench in the second half of Tampa Bay's 31-24 win over New Orleans, Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Fla.

The New Orleans Saints are bringing back long snapper Zach Wood on a one-year deal, a source told The Advocate on Tuesday.

Wood, who was signed after veteran long snapper Jon Dorenbos was forced to undergo immediate surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm right before the season, joined the Saints and spent the entire season snapping to kicker Wil Lutz and Thomas Morstead.

A product of SMU, Wood joined the NFL in 2016 as both a long snapper and a defensive end prospect with the Dallas Cowboys, but in New Orleans he strictly handled snapping duties, a job that had been a revolving door throughout last offseason.

New Orleans brought in five long snappers before Wood, including sending a conditional seventh-round pick to the Eagles for Dorenbos. The Saints got the pick back from Philadelphia given the long snapper's condition.
