Statement made: Tulane sells out home opener against Ga. Tech in 14 minutes _lowres

Advocate staff photo by JOHN McCUSKER -- Tulane held a press conference and tour of the soon-to-open Yulman Stadium on campus uptown Monday, August 11, 2014.

It took 14 minutes for Tulane fans to make a statement.

That’s how long single-game tickets to the Green Wave’s home opener against Georgia Tech, in the newly-constructed Yulman Stadium, were available to the general public.

Prior to Friday’s brief public sale, Tulane officials said it already sold all but 2,000 season tickets to the new stadium. Despite a slightly higher price tag - $50 for the opener, as opposed to $35 for the remainder of the season – calls flooded the Green Wave ticket office on Friday morning.

However, Tulane did leave some tickets in reserve for premium tailgating packages which include tickets as well as some scattered season tickets.

Regardless, the Sept. 6 kickoff against the Yellow Jackets will be the first Tulane home game played in front of a full capacity crowd since losing 41-36 to No. 5 LSU on Nov. 21, 1987 under coach Mack Brown. It is also Tulane’s first game on its Uptown campus since 1974.

Before Tulane opens the doors at Yulman Stadium, it kicks off the 2014 season and its tenure in the American Athletic Conference at Tulsa on Thurs., Aug. 28.
