CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The No. 31 Tulane men’s tennis team’s secured a victory 11 years in the making on Saturday morning at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, shutting out No. 41 Dartmouth 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Green Wave (16-8) advance to Sunday’s regional final, where they’ll play host and No. 2 overall seed North Carolina at noon CT.

The Tar Heels advanced to the second round via a 4-0 shutout over College of Charleston.

“So pumped for these guys,” Tulane coach Mark Booras said. “We’ve been talking about how we’re going to grow all year and how we’re going to grow each week, each day, and learn from each match. When you look back to four months ago to where we were in January when we played Dartmouth, we’ve grown so much from that match. It’s says a lot about their heart and determination. At the beginning of the year, we said we wanted to do something special for Tulane, and this is a great start for it.”

Tulane started its day with back-to-back 6-3 wins on courts one and three to claim the doubles point and the early 1-0 advantage.

Junior Sebastian Rey, who helped clinch doubles alongside Ian Van Cott, kept his momentum rolling in singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 win over George Wall on court three. Freshman Tyler Schick followed with a 7-5, 6-3, win over Eddie Grabill on court six as sophomore Constantin Schmitz clinched with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-2, victory over Ciro Riccardi on court two.
