Papillion, Neb. — The New Orleans Zephyrs hit four solo home runs and beat the Omaha Storm Chasers 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Storm Chasers scored a pair of first-inning runs after consecutive walks and RBI singles by Jorge Bonifacio and Tony Cruz.
Omaha starter Jonathan Dziedzic pitched the first six innings and limited the Zephyrs to one hit. He returned to pitch the seventh and allowed a solo home run to Destin Hood. The Z’s added two more solo home runs in the inning off of reliever Kevin McCarthy. The home runs came back-to-back from Isaac Galloway and Carlos Corporan. It was the third time this season the Zephyrs hit back-to-back homers.
Zephyr starter Jose Urena pitched 2.2 innings and left after allowing two runs on three hits and three walks. The Zephyrs bullpen pitched 6.1 shutout innings. Eric Jokisch earned the win, and Cody Ege picked up the save.
Brady Shoemaker added a home run in the ninth inning.
The Zephyrs have won three consecutive and have pulled within a game of .500 at 35-36. Omaha has dropped 17 of its past 21 games and is now 30-41.
The four home runs in a game matched a team high. The Z’s hit four against Albuquerque on May 20.
The Zephyrs continue the Omaha trip Thursday. The Zephyrs starter is yet to be announced, while Omaha will pitch right-hander Miguel Almonte (4-4, 4.87).
The Zephyrs return home July 4 to face Round Rock in a three game series.
