DES MOINES, Iowa — Kendry Flores silenced the Iowa Cubs for seven innings, and Grant Dayton and Lay Batista handled the final two as the New Orleans Zephyrs shut out the Iowa Cubs 5-0 on Friday night at Principal Park.

Kila Ka’aihue had two big hits, driving home three to power the Zephyrs offense. Miguel Rojas and Jordany Valdespin also added two hits.

The Zephyrs posted their PCL-leading ninth shutout. The Zephyrs limited Iowa to two hits and retired the final 21 batters. The Zephyrs have won three of their past four and improved to 34-38.

Rojas extended his hitting streak to 10 games. The infielder now has three hitting streaks of 10 or more games this season. ... Miami Marlins first baseman Michael Morse, on a rehab assignment, did not play; it was a scheduled day off. He is slated to return to the lineup Saturday.


The Zephyrs continue their eight-game road trip at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Cubs. The Zephyrs will start LHP Chris Narveson (0-1, 67.50 ERA) vs. Cubs LHP Drake Britton (3-4, 6.52). Listen in on WMTI-FM, 106.1.
