FRESNO, Calif. — J.D. Davis drove in Alejandro Garcia with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, leading the Fresno Grizzlies to an 8-5 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes late Thursday night.
The sacrifice fly came during a six-run inning and gave the Grizzlies a 6-5 lead. Later in the inning, Tony Kemp scored on a passed ball, and Juan Centeno had an RBI single.
Centeno singled three times, driving home two runs.
Jacob Dorris (2-0) got the win in relief, and Kelvin Marte (1-5) took the loss for New Orleans. James Hoyt recorded his second save.
Fresno took advantage of some erratic New Orleans pitching, drawing a season-high 12 walks in its victory.
The Cakes had built a 5-2 lead. Moises Sierra led the way with two hits and an RBI, Peter Mooney added a pair of hits and Brian Anderson hit a solo home run.
The Baby Cakes (40-64) dropped their 11th consecutive game in Fresno, which improved to 62-43.
The teams played again late Friday night. New Orleans begins a four-game series at Sacramento on Saturday night.
