COLORADO SPRINGS — Xavier Scruggs hammered a pair of home runs while going 4-for-5 to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 12-8 win in Colorado Springs on Sunday.
The Zephyrs snapped a three-game losing streak and salvaged a game in the series.
The Zephyrs (38-43) scored 12 runs on 13 hits as the Zephyrs grabbed an 11-8 lead thanks to a five-run fifth inning.
Robert Andino, Kenny Wilson and pitcher Jeremy Guthrie all had multi-RBI games for New Orleans.
Guthrie earned the win in his second start for the Zephyrs, going five innings. The Zephyrs’ bullpen, which had allowed 19 runs in 11 innings in the series, pitched four shutout innings to finish off the win.
The Sky Sox dropped to 41-39.
The Zephyrs return home Monday for a three-game series against the Round Rock Express. New Orleans will start LHP Chris Narveson (3-2, 3.27) against RHP Kyle Lohse (3-4, 5.23).
